National Adoption Day 2023
Every November since 2000, courts in all 50 U.S. states, along with Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and Guam, have opened up to finalize the adoptions of thousands of foster care children and to celebrate all adoptive families nationwide during National Adoption Day. Since its inaugural ceremony, over 70,000 children have been adopted during this annual celebration.
This special day brings awareness to the some 117,000 children nationwide in our foster system. Each year, around 20,000 children age out of the foster care system without having been placed with a family. For those who do find homes, it generally takes three years for their adoptions to be finalized.
Maricopa County National Adoption Day Event 2023
For the past several years, Maricopa County’s National Adoption Day event has been the largest in the entire country. Last year, 104 children were adopted during the county’s celebration, more than in any other city.
This year’s celebration will be November 18th at 9am at the Durango Juvenile Court Center in Phoenix.
If you are interested in finalizing an adoption during Maricopa County’s annual celebration, note that petitions must be filed by October 6th and paperwork must be filed by October 27th. In addition to all the adoptive court hearings, this year’s celebration will include family games, face paintings, entertainment, a photographer, and a new backpack for each adopted child.
