Remembering Landmark AZ Case to Give Minors the Right to Legal Counsel

Reflecting on the anniversary of a landmark Supreme Court case brings appreciation but also the revelation more change needs to happen. Most people would not know that up until 1967, minors were not guaranteed the right to legal counsel. They were not afforded the same legal rights as an adult. The 1964 case that changed all of this originated out of the arrest of Gerald Gault, who was 15, in Globe, AZ. This case changed the United States for the better, however, we still struggle to ensure minors get the legal representation they deserve. Often times, kids waive their right for counsel without understanding what the consequences will be. There needs to be definitive change made immediately so that all minors are guaranteed protection under the law. If you are a family member or friend of a minor who has been arrested or charged with a DUI, call us toll-free at 833-854-8181, or visit one of our offices out of Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City, or Tempe, AZ.
